"We have no names, we're part of the kollektiv!" The band takes its name from this motto, recognizable to any student at Reed College, which is usually chanted by students as they streak en masse through the quad and library. Musically, the quartet's playing reflects the free-spirited nature of the school where the group first formed. Embracing the tradition established by legendary psychedelic touring acts like The Grateful Dead, Phish, and The Disco Biscuits, the band searches for unique sounds at every show by incorporating elements of jazz improvisation into their extended dance-rock grooves. But this free-wheeling approach never gets in the way of well-crafted songwriting and arrangement. These four composition students' original material draws from funk, punk, country, reggae, classical, latin, and more, and offers an eclectic fusion of styles where infectious rhythm is the common thread.
